Field Hockey falls on the road at Johnson and Wales

(Providence, R.I.) The Rivier University Field Hockey team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest this afternoon on the road against Johnson & Wales University, 7-1 at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletics Complex. Rivier now lies at 2-9 overall on the season and 0-4 in the conference with Johnson & Wales improving to 2-9 and 1-2 in the GNAC with the win.

The Raiders an early 1-0 lead after junior Chelsie Hubicsak-Muldowney (Windham, N.H.) found the back of the net in the 13th minute. The Wildcats rushed back 2 minutes later to even the score 1-1 as the game would stay a stalemate when the first half came to an end.

The second half was difficult for the Raiders as Johnson & Wales unleashed 16 of their 23 shots on net in the half. Rivier freshman goaltender Emily Foster (West Lebanon, N.H.) was solid as she made ten saves in the contest.

JWU sophomore Giovanna Ciavardoni (Latham, N.Y.) scored four goals in the second half to lead the Wildcat offense.

Rivier will hit the road for a GNAC game at Anna Maria on October 10th beginning at 10am.
