Field Hockey stumbles at home to Mount Ida, 3-1

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Field Hockey team took the early lead but couldn't hold on as the visiting Mustangs of Mount Ida College came back to win 3-1 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest this afternoon at Raider Field. The loss drops the Raiders' overall record to 2-6 (0-3 GNAC) while Mount Ida improves to 2-7 (1-2 GNAC).

Sophomore Maykate Sweeney (Chicopee, Mass.) put the Raiders on the board just 1:05 into the contest as she scored an unassisted goal. It was Sweeney's third goal of the season.

Mount Ida would then answer twice before the halftime horn sounded as Emily Salls hit an unassisted tally at 11:45 and got some help from Lexi Minicucci on her second of the half at 19:53.

Minicucci would add an insurance goal at 43:05 in the second half to account for all the scoring in the game.

Freshman Emily Foster (West Lebanon, N.H.) stopped four of seven shots she faced on net. Her counterpart, Mount Ida's Emily McConnell was successful on six of seven attempts.

Rivier will host Thomas College in a non-conference match up tomorrow afternoon at Raider Field. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 PM. Mount Ida will return to New Hampshire for their next scheduled contest on Wednesday afternoon as they make the trip up to Henniker, N.H. for a 4pm non-conference contest with New England College.
