Field Hockey suffers 7-3 setback to Husson University

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Field Hockey team fell this evening to a talented Husson University squad, 7-3 in non-conference action at Raider Field. The loss sends the Raiders overall record to 2-11 while Husson improves to 5-6 on the season.

The Eagles tallied the first five goals of the game as both Elizabeth Terry and Taylor Shaw scored twice before Kayla Royer added the fifth and final goal for Husson in the first half. With about four minutes left to play, Rivier sophomore Jordan Parece (Pelham, N.H.) was able to get the Raiders on the board as freshman Linsey Roth (Tyngsboro, Mass.) collected the assist.

Sophomore MayKate Sweeney (Chicopee, Mass.) scored her fourth goal of the season as the Raiders closed the deficit to three goals as the second half began. However, a goal from Lauren Russell and Royer completing the hat trick sealed the game to give the Eagles the win. Sophomore Leah Ingalls would add a late unassisted goal to account for all of the scoring.

Freshman Stevie Charest (Lisbon, Maine) made nine saves on fourteen shots before giving way to classmate Emily Foster (West Lebanon, N.H.) in the second half. Foster made three saves on five shots over the final 35 minutes. Kaitlin Dolloff was successful on seven of 10 shots in the win for Husson.

Rivier will have a full week of rest before their next scheduled contest on Tuesday, October 20 against New England College. The non-conference tilt will begin promptly at 7:00pm at Raider Field. Husson, meanwhile, will travel to Castleton State for a North Atlantic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at 4:30pm.
