Silverman, Trevino named GNAC Corvias Women's Volleyball Players of the Week

(Winthrop, Mass.) The Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced earlier today that Rivier University junior Lauren Silverman and sophomore Bethany Trevino have been selected for GNAC Women's Volleyball Players of the Week presented by Corvias.

Silverman was honored as the Co-Offensive Player of the Week as she helped lead the team to two wins, including an important conference victory over Emmanuel. The Chelmsford, Mass. native averaged 4.0 kills and 1.67 blocks per set while hitting at a .583 clip. She laced 11 kills on just 14 attempts against Framingham State while also racking up nine blocks. Silverman wrapped up the week with 13 kills in a three set win over Emmanuel.

Trevino was tabbed with the Defensive Player of the Week. The libero from Westminster, Colorado averaged 5 digs per set in the 2-0 week for Rivier. She was stellar in Rivier's sweep of Framingham State with 13 digs then turned it up a notch with 17 digs in the 3-0 win over Emmanuel. Trevino also served up five service ace serves in the win over the Saints.

This is the first time that Silverman was selected for Offensive Player of the Week as she shares that accomplishment with senior Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, Calif.) as the only two Raiders to be honored.

Trevino also garnered Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time this season and she becomes the second Rivier student-athlete to be selected along with Silverman.

Rivier, the overall #1 seed in the GNAC Tournament, will host #8 Mount Ida College tomorrow evening in the GNAC Tournament Quarterfinals. Game time is scheduled for 7pm inside the Muldoon Gymnasium.
