Women's Volleyball earns first win of 2015

(Norfolk, Va.) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team opened up their 2015 season earlier today at the Virginia Wesleyan Invitational with a pair of contests against Randolph-Macon College and Misericordia University. The Raiders were defeated in the first contest against Randolph-Macon by a 3-0 final before sweeping Misericordia in the afternoon contest.

Game One: Randolph-Macon College 3, Rivier University 0 (Final)

Randolph-Macon came out swinging in the opening game as the swept the Raiders 3-0 by scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-13. Junior Molly McCormick (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) laced a team high 8 kills and classmate Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.) chipped in with 6 kills in the loss. Sophomore Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) paced the defensive attack with 9 digs. Senior Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, Calif.) provided 21 assists. Freshman Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.), making her collegiate debut, totaled three blocks in the contest.

Game Two: Rivier University 3, Misercordia University 0 (Final)

The Raiders took home their first win of the season as they swept Misercordia by scores of 25-21, 25-13 and 25-17.

Mott was electric is this one as she hammered down 21 kills and recorded a .613 hitting percentage. McCormack and junior Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) each had 8 kills while O'Reilly racked up 37 assists. Sophomore Madison Soucy (Tolland, Conn.) led the defense with 13 digs.

Rivier will return to action on September 11th as they travel up to Plymouth State University for the Granite State Challenge.
