Women's Volleyball raises another banner, sweeps Colby-Sawyer

(Nashua, N.H.) It was another banner night at the Muldoon Gymnasium as prior to the game, the 2014 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship banner was unveiled. The Raiders promptly then took care of business as they swept a tough Colby-Sawyer College team in three straight sets.

This was the second meeting in four days for these two programs. Back on September 12th in the Granite State Challenge, Rivier was able to escape with the win after the Chargers forced a fifth set.

Tonight was a different story as the Raiders were able to win the three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-18 and 25-13.

Junior Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the balanced offensive attack as she hammered down a team high 9 kills while classmates Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.) and Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) contributed 8 and 7 kills respectively. Mott finished with a .538 hitting percentage and two block solos. Senior Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, Calif.) recorded just 29 assists with sophomore libero Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) registering a team high 20 digs.

Colby-Sawyer was paced by Gabrielle Hernandez who had six kills and Kelsey McCulley, who saw four swings hit the floor. Laura Smolinski was the team's assists leader with 17 and Lexi Strong had 20 digs.

The Raiders (6-3 overall) will return to the Muldoon on Saturday afternoon as they host Wellesley College and Regis College in a non-conference tri-match beginning at 11am. The Chargers (2-10) will also be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they travel up to Middlebury, Vt. for a non-conference tri-match with SUNY-Cortland and Middlebury College.
