Women's Soccer honors seniors, fall to Lasell

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team suffered a 4-1loss this evening to visiting Lasell College the final Great Northeast Athletic Conference regular season contest on Senior Night at Raider Field. The loss sends the Raiders' record to 5-9-1 overall and 3-8-0 in the GNAC while Lasell finishes conference play with a 10-0-1 record and they are now 11-4-2 overall.

Prior to the start of the game, the team secured their first GNAC post-season berth since 2006 as both Norwich and Anna Maria suffered losses. As the 8th seed, the team will travel to top seeded Lasell College for the GNAC Quarterfinals on Saturday, October 31st.

The Raiders also honored their two seniors during the pre–game festivities. Hayley Barnard and Paxton LaRocque (Londonderry, N.H.) are two integral parts to the team and their success this season.

Megan Cullen got the Lasers on the board first as she deposited a pass from freshman Sabrina Morais (Arlington, Mass.) into the back of net for the 1-nil advantage in the 26th minute. The score would remain that way until the 65th minute when senior Bridget Munnelly (Bellingham, Mass.) lifted a corner kick into the box and found the head of Morias.

The Raiders cut the deficit in half when junior Maggie Cohoon (Derry, N.H.) converted on a penalty kick at 75:21. The Lasers would answer right back with a pair of late tallies by sophomore Casey Meissner (Sandwich, Mass.) and Morais' second goal of the game.

Rivier sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) was able to make an impressive 15 saves on the evening while Lasell sophomore Sarah Laclair (Belchertown, Mass.) stopped six of seven shots.

Rivier will wrap up the 2015 regular season when they host Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Tuesday evening. Game time is scheduled for 5pm. Lasell will host Framingham State on Wednesday afternoon at 3pm.
