Women's Soccer upended by Albertus Magnus, 2-0

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team found themselves on the wrong side of a 2-0 decision this afternoon as the visiting Albertus Magnus College Falcons were able to walk away with a victory. The loss sets the Raiders back to 2-4-1 on the season and 0-3 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. The Falcons, meanwhile, up their overall record to 3-4-2 and 2-1 in the GNAC.

Senior Acacia Nelson (Bridgeport, Conn.) broke the scoreless tie in the 57th minute mark as she scored her first goal of the season – an unassisted tally to give Albertus Magnus the lead they wouldn't relinquish. The Falcons added some insurance in the 76th minute when sophomore Victoria Lavery (West Haven, Conn.) put one between the pipes for the 2-0 final.

Rivier sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) made a remarkable 12 saves in the loss while counterpart senior Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) was successful on all three shots the Raiders were able to get on net.

The Raiders will return to action on Wednesday afternoon as they travel to Providence, Rhode Island for another GNAC contest, this time with Johnson and Wales University. Game time is scheduled for 7pm. Albertus Magnus will host Nichols College on Monday afternoon.
