Women's Soccer downs John Jay, 4-1

(New York, N.Y.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team captured their first win of the 2015 season this afternoon as they defeated John Jay College, 4-1 on the road in New York City. The win evens the overall record for the Raiders at 1-1 while John Jay falls to 0-3.

Senior Paxton LaRocque (Londonderry, N.H.) got the Raiders on the board early as she received a pass from sophomore Nicole Godschall (Hudson, N.H.) that led to a breakaway opportunity in which LaRocque converted for her first goal of the year.

John Jay would find the equalizer just before the first half came to a close when Jessica Jean knocked home a loose rebound past sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.).

The second half was all Rivier as the team netted three goals beginning with Godschall's first goal in a Raider uniform that became the eventual game winner. LaRocque and junior Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) were able to extend the lead with a single tallies each at the 81 minute and 88 minute mark, respectively.

Goodspeed stopped two of the three shots she faced on the afternoon.

The team will be back on the field this Saturday afternoon when they host the University of Saint Joseph in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest. Game time is set for 1:30pm.
