Women's Soccer shuts out Anna Maria, 5-0

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team found the back of the net five times in route to a Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory this evening over visiting Anna Maria College at Raider Field. The 5-0 final lifts the Raiders' overall record to 5-8-1 but more importantly it also gives them a 3-7-0 mark in the GNAC. Anna Maria falls to 3-11-1, 1-7-1 GNAC with the loss.

Junior Maggie Cohoon (Derry, N.H.) gave the Raiders a lead they would not relinquish as she was able to dribble around a pair of Amcat defenders for her sixth goal of the season. Cohoon would add to that total just a few minutes later when senior Paxton LaRocque (Londonderry, N.H.) sent a perfect through ball that Cohoon was able to corral and drive it past the Amcat goalkeeper.

Rivier would then put the game out of reach in the second half as they were able to score three times, thanks in large part to LaRocque. After junior Megan Caron (Tyngsboro, Mass.) scored in the 58th minute to make it 3-0, LaRocque recorded tallies in the 65th and 76th minute for the 5-0 final.

Sophomore Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) came up big in a couple of late breakaway opportunities from Anna Maria as she finished with eight saves for her first shutout of the season. AMC goalkeeper Kate Kneeland made 10 saves on the evening.

The Raiders, winners in three of their past four games, will return to action on Saturday afternoon when Lasell College arrives at Raider Field for a 6pm start time. Anna Maria will also be in GNAC action on Saturday when they host Simmons in a 2pm kickoff.
