Women's Soccer clipped by Wildcats, 2-0

(Providence, R.I.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team was defeated this afternoon by the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats, 2-0 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex. The loss sets the Raiders' overall record at 2-5-1 and a 0-4 GNAC mark while the Wildcats even their overall record at 5-5-0 and are now 3-1-0 in the conference.

Rivier had an opportunity to take the 1-0 lead but junior Megan Caron's (Tyngsboro, Mass.) header struck the crossbar minutes before JWU scored their first goal.

JWU sophomore Kyra Selner (Sterling, Va.) used a one touch off a crossing from classmate Taylor Hopkins (Warminster, Pa.) to give the Wildcats the lead with 23:09 remaining. Hopkins would then seal the game with a goal of her own just under five minutes remaining on a pass from freshman Mallory Buys (Harwinton, Conn.) for the 2-0 final.

The Raiders were out shot on the afternoon by a 24-3 margin.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) made eleven saves on thirteen shots she faced.

Next up for Rivier will be another GNAC contest. The team will welcome Simmons College to the friendly confines of Raider Field on Saturday afternoon.
