Women's Soccer falls to Simmons, 4-0

(Boston, Mass.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest this evening on the road against Simmons College at Windsor Field in Boston, Mass. The Raiders allowed three first half goals in the 4-0 GNAC loss. Rivier is now 5-4-0 on the season with an 0-3-0 mark in the conference while Simmons ups their record to 3-4-2 and 2-1-0.

The Sharks wasted no time cracking the scoring column with a pair of quick goals in the opening two minutes of the match. First year forward Kali DeNisi (Killingworth, Conn.) put the home team on the board just 87 seconds into the game when she fired a point blank shot into the right side of the net from inside the box for a 1-0 edge. Classmate Erin Montambault (Watertown, Conn.) followed just 28 seconds later. The forward took a feed from junior forward Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) in the box and beat a drawn out Rivier keeper with a shot into the right corner for her team-leading sixth goal of the year at 1:54 for a 2-0 lead.

Simmons would add a goal from junior midfielder Ali Berkman (Natick, Mass.) in the 24th minute and a tally from sophomore back Tasha Friedman (Phoenix, Ariz.) in the 89th minute to cap the scoring.

Rivier freshman goalkeeper Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) made eight saves while her counterpart, freshman Casey Halle (Watertown, Mass.) stopped all six shots for her second shutout of the season.

The Raiders head to Paxton, Mass. on Wednesday, October 1 to face Anna Maria College at 6:00 p.m., while the Sharks will be in action again on the same night when they host GNAC foe Lasell College at 8:00 p.m. on Winsor Field, while
