Women's Soccer falls in the rain to JWU, 2-0

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team lost their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference game of the season this afternoon to visiting Johnson and Wales University, 2-0 in the rain at Raider Field. The loss sends the Raiders to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the GNAC while JWU improves to 3-3 overall (1-0 GNAC).

The Wildcats were only able to sneak two of their 12 shots on goal past Rivier freshman goalkeeper Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.). JWU made 24 shots overall in the contest as they outshot Rivier 24-5. Goodspeed recorded 10 saves.

The Raiders' best chance to score was in the 79th minute when sophomore Maggie Cohoon (Derry, N.H.) was able to dribble around backup goalkeeper Alexa Rose (Jr./Lancaster, Pa.) inside the box. Cohoon's shot toward the empty net was stopped by Anna Goerler (So./Cutchogue, N.Y.), who made a terrific defensive save to keep Rivier off the board.

Cohoon also had a breakaway attempt stopped in the 75th minute.

Jessica Rom (Fr./East Northport, N.Y.) was the starting goalkeeper for the Wildcats and she was credited with her first collegiate win.

Rivier will be back in action on Tuesday evening as they travel to Hormel Stadium in Medford, Mass. to take on Fisher College in a non-conference contest. JWU will also be on the road for a non-conference match up with Eastern Nazarene College on Thursday evening.
