Women's Soccer begins the 2014 season with an impressive 5-1 win

(Bangor, Maine) The 2014 Women's Soccer season began with a 5-1 win over the University of Maine – Presque Isle this morning at the Husson University Classic in Bangor, Maine. Sophomore Maggie Cohoon (Derry, N.H.) recorded a hat trick and freshman goalkeeper Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) stopped 8 of 9 shots for her first collegiate win.

Sophomore Megan Caron (Tyngsboro, Mass.) got the Raiders on the board just 13 minutes into the contest. Caron was able to handle a right cross pass from Cohoon to give Rivier an early 1-nil lead. UMPI would fight back and knot the game at 1 when Sam Nadeau was able to get the shot pass Goodspeed at the 20 minute mark.

The Raiders would then go ahead for good when Caron was able to beat the goalkeeper for the second time inside the 36 minute mark after another pass from Cohoon. Cohoon then finished the game tallying three goals including a penalty kick inside the 39 minute mark.

Rivier outshot the Owls 19-11. UMPI's Allison Lopez made 10 saves in the loss.

Next up for the Raiders will be Husson University tomorrow afternoon at 1:30pm to close out the 10th Annual Husson Classic.
