Women's Soccer edged by Anna Maria, 2-1

(Paxton, Mass.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team gave up the game winning goal with less than three minutes left in regulation as they fell on the road, 2-1 at Anna Maria College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action this evening.

The loss evens up the Raiders overall record at 5-5, with a 0-4 mark in conference play, while the AMCATS improve to 6-5 overall and 1-3 in the GNAC.

The game was scoreless until Anna Maria sophomore Melissa Andersen (Oxford, Mass.) knocked home a loose rebound in the 54th minute.

Rivier would bounce back and tie the game in the 75th minute as sophomore Maggie Cohoon (Derry, N.H.) netted her 10th goal of the season as she converted a penalty kick with ease.

With 2:43 left to play, Andersen collected a rebound of off a saved shot by teammate Cristina Turley (Waterford, Conn.) and stuffed it home to net the game-winning goal.

The game was evenly matched and ended with just a two-shot differential, 23-21, in favor of the AMCATS. Freshman netminder Kate Kneeland (Windham, Maine) recorded 10 saves for the AMCATS, while Rivier goalkeeper Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) tallied 12 saves.

Anna Maria will search for a second GNAC victory on Saturday as they travel to take on Norwich at 3:30 p.m. The Raiders will also be on the road on Saturday against Emmanuel at 1:00 p.m.
