Goodspeed, Cohoon lead Women's Soccer to Classic Championship

(Bangor, Maine) The Rivier University Women' Soccer team captured the 10th Annual Husson University Classic this afternoon as they defeated Husson University, 1-0 at Boucher Field in Bangor, Maine.

Sophomore Maggie Cohoon (Derry, N.H.) was able to break the scoreless tie in the 77th minute as she was able to break through the Husson defense and beat the goalkeeper with a low shot to the right side.

The Raiders (2-0 overall) were outshot by the Eagles, 30-6 with only 12-3 being on net. Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) recorded her first career shutout as she stopped all 12 shots she saw. The rookie net minder has allowed just one goal on 21 shots during the Husson Classic.

For their efforts, Cohoon was named the Classic's Most Valuable Player and a nod on the All-Classic team. Joining Cohoon on the All-Classic team were Goodspeed, junior Paxton LaRocque (Londonderry, N.H.), sophomore Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and sophomore Megan Caron (Tyngsboro, Mass.).

The Women's Soccer team will return to action this upcoming Friday night as they host Newbury College under the lights at Raider Field in the 2014 Raider Classic.
