Women's Basketball: Raiders stumble in GNAC opener at Anna Maria

PAXTON, MASS. – The Rivier University Women's Basketball team began the Great Northeast Athletic Conference portion of their schedule this evening as they fell to Anna Maria College, 77-63 inside the Fuller Center. The loss sends the Raiders to an overall record of 4-9 (0-1 GNAC) while the AMCATS improve to 5-10 (1-0 GNAC).

Sophomore Cydney Lessard (Derry, N.H.) led the offensive attack for Rivier with 17 points. Classmate Alexandra Grumblatt (Manchester, N.H.) added 12 points and junior Catherine Torpey (Melrose, Mass.) chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds. Also collecting seven rebounds was freshman Jaden Smith (Nashua, N.H.) who also finished with six points on the night.

For the AMCATS, Amber Wilson led all scorers with the game-high of 30 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the floor while also pulling down 16 rebounds for the game's only double-double. Sierra Johnson also reached double figures in points scored as she ended her night with 16 points and Franchesca Hammond finished with 11 points.

Both teams will remain in conference action as they return to the court on Saturday afternoon. Rivier will host Regis College in a 1pm scheduled tip-off while Anna Maria travels to Emmanuel for a 3pm contest.
