NORTHAMPTON, MASS. – Freshman Arianna Motivala (Nashua, N.H.) scored 21 points however it was not enough as the Rivier University Women's Basketball team fell to Maine Maritime Academy this afternoon, 80-47 in the consolation game of the Tyler Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Smith College. The loss moves the Raiders to an overall record of 1-4 while Maine Maritime improves to 1-3 on the young season.
Motivala shot 6-for-12 from the field and drained 7-of-10 from the charity stripe as she recorded her career high in points scored. She was also named to the Tyler Tip-Off Tournament All-Tournament team for her efforts over the two-game tournament, leading the Raiders with 32 points. Sophomore Cydney Lessard (Auburn, N.H.) added nine points and classmate Ciera Clark ( ) finished with eight points in the loss.
The Mariners were led by Melinda Ogden, who shot 6-for-10 on her way to a team-leading 16 points. Lauren Plissey chipped in with 13 points and Samantha Mason added nine points off the bench in the win. Sydney Underhill-Tilton pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds for Maine Maritime while also scoring six points.
Rivier will return to action on Tuesday evening as they travel to Plymouth State University for a 5:30pm non-conference contest.
