Women's Basketball: Motivala, Raiders tripped up by Lasell

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier University Women's Basketball team suffered an 82-70 setback this evening to visiting Lasell University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference battle inside the Muldoon Gymnasium. The loss sends the Raiders to an overall record of 4-17 with a 0-8 mark against the league. Lasell, meanwhile, improves to 10-12 on the year and 3-7 in conference play.

Four different Rivier student-athletes finished in double-figures led by freshman Arianna Motivala (Nashua, N.H.), who ended her night with a team-high 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor. Classmate Jaden Smith (Nashua, N.H.) added 16 points with both sophomore Cydney Lessard (Derry, N.H.) and freshman Heather Ries (Mont Vernon, N.H.) netting 10 points each. Sophomore Alexandra Grumblatt (Manchester, N.H.) pulled down the game-high of 18 rebounds while contributing eight points and senior Jackelyn Robarge (Belmont, N.H.) finished with seven points in the loss.

Senior Amanda Ortiz (Newton, Mass.) led all scorers on the night as the Lasell guard finished with 28 points and nine rebounds. Junior Peyton Young (Douglas, Mass.) chipped in with a 21-point, seven rebound effort and classmate Meg Carroll (Douglas, Mass.) finished with seven points to help the Lasers to victory.

Both squads will return to action on Saturday afternoon. Rivier will make the trip to Providence, R.I. for a 1pm GNAC contest at Johnson & Wales University while Lasell hosts Pine Manor College in a 2pm non-conference affair.
