LYNDONVILLE, VT – Junior Catherine Torpey's (Melrose, Mass.) double-double leads the Rivier University Women's Basketball team to a 73-62 win over Northern Vermont University-Johnson in the final day of the NVU Tip-Off Classic hosted by NVU-Lyndon. The Raiders even out their 2019-20 overall record at 1-1 while the Badgers drop to 0-2.

Holding a two-point advantage after the first 10 minutes of action, the Raiders exploded for 34 points in the second quarter on their way to victory.

Torpey was electric for the Raiders as she shot 6-for-17 from the field, including 4-of-9 from beyond the arc, on her way to a game-high 21 points. The forward was just as electric defensively as she pulled down 10 rebounds and registered three blocks on the night. Freshman Arianna Motivala (Nashua, N.H.) added 15 points and eight assists in a reserve effort while sophomores Cydney Lessard (Auburn, N.H.) and Ciera Clark (Pembroke, N.H.) added 12 and 10 points, respectively. Sophomore Alexandra Grumblatt (Manchester, N.H.) posted her second consecutive game of 10+ rebounds as she finished with 15 – six of which were offensive rebounds.

NVU-Johnson saw three student-athletes reach double figures in scoring with Lindsey LaPerle leading the way with 17. Amorette Rodriguez provided additional help with 11 points and Kiana Johnson finished with 10 points. Rodriguez and Halie Tillotson led the team along the boards with seven rebounds each and Klaire Ware pulled down four rebounds and scored eight points off the bench in the loss.

Torpey was selected the All-Tournament team for her efforts over the past two games. She averaged 16.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game during the Tip-Off Classic.

Rivier will be back in action on Tuesday night as they welcome Wentworth Institute of Technology into the Muldoon Gymnasium for the 2019-20 home opener. Game time is scheduled for a 7pm start. NVU-Johnson will travel to Plymouth State University on Tuesday night in their next scheduled contest.
