Women's Basketball: Motivala, Raiders fall in opener at NVU Tip-Off Classic

LYNDONVILLE, VT – The 2019-2020 Season tipped off this evening as the Rivier University Women's Volleyball team participated in the Northern Vermont University Tip-Off Classic, hosted by NVU-Lyndon. In the opener, the Raiders fell to the host Hornets by a 65-48 final.

Sophomore Alexandra Grumblatt (Manchester, N.H.) recorded her first career double-double as she led the Raiders with 12 rebounds and 10 points. The second-year forward played all 40 minutes collecting eight of her 12 boards on the defensive end. Junior Catherine Torpey (Melrose, Mass.) and freshman Arianna Motivala (Nashua, N.H.) led the team with 12 points each and sophomore Cydney Lessard (Auburn, N.H.) chipped in with nine points in the loss.

The Hornets were paced by the efforts of Shaylan Mosher and Lea Crompton, who each had the game-high of 17 points while collecting five rebounds. Alissa Mitchell finished with the team-high of 10 rebounds and Faith Poirier added 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting in a reserve effort for NVU-Lyndon. Alisha Celley chipped in with eight points and nine rebounds.

Rivier will play NVU-Johnson tomorrow afternoon in the second day of the classic while the Hornets battle Fisher College.
