Baseball Falls Short to AMCATS in GNAC First Round

MARLBOROUGH, MA: Rivier baseball came up short to the AMCATS of Anna Maria College this evening in the First Round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference postseason.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 5/2/23

- Score: Anna Maria 3, Rivier 1

- Records: Anna Maria (19-18), Rivier (11-24)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  After a scoreless first two innings, the Raiders would get on the board first in the top of the third. Jacob Plamondon (Manchester, NH) drove in the only Rivier run on a deflected single up the middle.  

Nate Bonacorsi (Goffstown, NH) would shut out the potent AMCAT offense until the bottom of the sixth inning, when two runs would come across to score. Both were unearned, with two errors taking place in the inning. Jeremy Rosenberg brought in the first run for Anna Maria on a double to right center field. Christian Villa would then bring in the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly during the very next at bat. The final AMCAT run would come across in the eighth inning on another Rosenberg single to left field.  

- Bonacorsi would get the loss (3-1) after going seven innings, allowing just five hits, no earned, and five strikeouts. Jack Marzec would get the win after going seven innings with five hits allowed, one earned run and 12 strikeouts.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Top Performers

-  Rosenberg was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI

-  Jarrod Merifiote was 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored.

-  Plamondon was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
