Baseball Falls to Penn College

MYRTLE BEACH, SC: Rivier baseball fell to Penn College this evening in non-conference action at the Ripken Experience.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 3/6/23

- Score: Penn 18, Rivier 6

- Records: Penn (2-3), Rivier (0-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Wildcats opened the game by scoring in the first four innings, putting up 16 runs. Penn got on the board in the first inning on a two-run homerun to left field by Shane Price. Their biggest inning came in the fourth, where they were able to put up a nine spot after finding open turf eight times.  

Kevin Williams (Pelham, NH) came in to pitch the last four innings of the contest, keeping the Wildcats scoreless for the first three, allowing the Raiders to put runs on the board in the seventh inning. Rivier put together five runs in the seventh with big hits from Frank Gulezian (Derry, NH), Luis Tejada (Methuen, MA), John Canto (Harwich, MA), and Dylan Aliberti (Sandown, NH). Gulezian got the ball rolling with the first RBI of the game after ripping a single through the left side of the infield. Tejada followed by hitting the ball in the same exact spot to plate another. Canto then hit the ball to the wall in left-center field to plate two more on a stand-up double. Aliberti followed suit with a ground-rule double to right field.

- Rivier would plate one more in the bottom of the ninth after three straight walks. Jacob Plamondon (Manchester, NH) hit an RBI groundout to second base.

- Cole Culver went four innings allowing just three hits, and had eight punchouts. His teammate Keegan Nytz got the win (1-0), pitching two no-hit innings with four strikeouts. Wesley Martinez (Methuen, MA) was tagged with the loss after throwing for three innings with six hits, six earned, and one strikeout.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Top Performers

-  Shane Price was 1-for-3 with three RBIs and a homerun.

-  Tyler Rudolph was 3-for-7 with three RBIs.

-  Canto was 1-for-2 with a team-high two RBIs

- Aliberti was the only Raider with multiple hits. He finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI.
