Scots Dominate Baseball

WENHAM, MA: Rivier baseball lost to Gordon College today in non-conference play on the road.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 3/30/23

- Score: Gordon 22, Rivier 7

- Records: Rivier (4-12, 1-1 GNAC), Gordon (6-13)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Raiders started off strong with a three-run home run to left center from Frank Gulezian (Derry, NH) in the first inning. The Scots answered back quickly in the bottom of the first with six runs, including a double, single, and two walks. One error was committed in the bottom of the first by Raiders' shortstop Gulezian forcing in two of those runs.

- Gulezian hit a sac fly to center field, earning an RBI in the top of the third inning for Rivier. Gordon's Hunter Simpson homered to left field, collecting 2 RBIs.

- The Scots blew open the game in the fourth inning, scoring 10 runs which included a grand slam to left field from Shane Demers.

- In the fifth inning, Gordon's final four runs were put away.

- Riv was able to add on three runs in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough to go the complete nine innings. Raiders' Gulezian doubled down the left field line, bringing in 2 RBIs. Zachary White (Long Beach, CA) then doubled to left center, Gulezian scored.

- Brandon Bloom of the Scots was granted the win, pitching five innings, and only giving up two hits. Patrick Young (Billerica, MA) of the Raiders was tagged with the loss giving up six hits and nine runs.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Gulezian was 2-for-2, with 6 RBIs, a home run, double, sac fly, and 2 runs scored

- White was 1-for-3, with 1 RBI and a double

UP NEXT:

- Rivier baseball will face Colby-Sawyer College Saturday, April 1st at 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM at Gill Stadium in conference play.
