Baseball Sweeps Chargers

CONCORD, NH: Rivier baseball took down the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer in both games this afternoon in GNAC action.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/10/23

- Score: Rivier 7, Colby-Sawyer 2. Rivier 15, Colby-Sawyer 10.

- Records: Rivier (7-16, 4-4 GNAC), Colby-Sawyer (3-16, 0-6 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One

-  The Raiders topped the Chargers 7-2 in game one, although coming up two hits shy of the visiting team eight to six. Rivier had one big inning with six runs coming across to score. The bottom of the fourth started with Jacob Boudreau (Auburn, NH) double that plated two. Dylan Aliberti (Sandown, NH) followed up with another double that would push two more runs across. After another scoring on a wild pitch, Frank Gulezian (Derry, NH) would bring in the sixth and final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly.

- The Chargers would plate two, with one coming in the fifth on a solo home run by Cam Carignan to left field. The last run came across in the sixth on another hit by Carignan. This time it was a double to right center.

- Nolan Mederos (Nashua, NH) would get the win (1-3) with six innings worth of work, seven hits allowed, two earned runs and six strikeouts. Jack Mullen was tagged with the loss (1-2). Mullen went five innings allowing five hits, five earned, with ten strikeouts.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Top Performers

-  Aliberti was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

-  Boudreau was 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored.

-  Carignan was 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two

-  The Raiders jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead through two innings. All runs were produced by Aliberti, starting off with a solo shot to center field. He then batted in another in the second on a single. He would then come around to score himself on a wild pitch.

-  Rivier would add more to their lead in the fourth, with Boudreau continuing to produce with another double down the left field line to plate two. Jacob Plamondon (Manchester, NH) who joined in with a single to left center to plate one more.

- The Chargers would respond with a four-run inning in the top of the fifth to get within one at 6-5. With two Raiders errors, one run would come across, followed by Devin Montalvo's two-run double down the left field line. Cooper O'Brien ended it with a sac fly to left field.

- The Raiders would go right back on the attack in the bottom of the fifth with a six spot. Boudreau, Aliberti, and Plamondon all struck again with singles for four of the six runs. Owen Medlock (Merrimack, NH) and Gulezian added the other two. Medlock was hit by a pitch, plating one, and Gulezian added another single to the inning to bring in one.

- Colby-Sawyer would add another four runs in the sixth on a Dylan Watson RBI single. Jake Choiniere would plate three on a double to right center.

- Now up 12-9, Boudreau would strike again with his fifth RBI of the game on a bunt single. Plamondon would rack up his third and fourth RBIs of the game on a double down the left field line. The Chargers would tack on the last run of the game in the top of the seventh on a single by Ian Turpel.

- Nate Bonacorsi (Goffstown, NH) would get the win (2-0) on 5.2 innings pitched, allowing eight hits, three earned runs, and six strikeouts. Brendan Ferris (Methuen, MA) would get the save with 3.1 innings pitched, allowing just two hits and three strikeouts. Justin Power would get the loss (0-2) after four innings of work, with eight hits allowed, six earned runs, and three strikeouts.

-  Boudreau was 3-for-5 with 5 RBIs, and 3 runs scored.

-  Plamondon was 3-for-6 with 4 RBIs and a run scored.

- Aliberti was 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

- Choiniere was 1-for-4 with 3 RBIs.
