Women's Basketball tripped up by Pine Manor

(Chestnut Hill, Mass.) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team suffered a 73-63 setback this evening on the road at Pine Manor College in non-action. The loss sends the Raiders to an overall record of 8-10 while the Gators improve to 6-12.

The Raiders were led by freshman Kaylee Kacavas (Dracut, Mass.) who had a balanced all-around night of 17 points to go with 6 rebounds 5 assists and 3 steals. Junior Caitlyn Perry (Nashua, N.H.) netted 15 points with all of them coming in the second half while classmate Savanna Butterfield (Londonderry, N.H.) contributed 13 points and 6 rebounds. Junior Rebecca DeBaldo (Pelham, N.H.) finished with 12 points and 4 rebounds for Rivier.

PMC led a balance attack offensively with every player posting at least 6 points or more. Taylor Martin led the way for the home team as she posted her second double-double of the season with a 20 point 15 rebound effort. Erica Jones and Sybil Lynch netted 13 points apiece with both players filling up the stat sheet with Lynch posting 8 rebounds to go along with 6 assists as Jones grabbed 5 rebounds along with 3 steals. Shaquanda Middleton and Cadejia Matthews-Austin both got in the double-digit scoring column with Middleton getting 11 points and 4 steals as Matthews-Austin scored 10 points to go with a game-high 5 steals. Siera Robinson played as a key reserve netting 6 points while grabbing 5 rebounds.

The game was evenly played as the stats were very similar as Rivier shot 24-61 (39.3%) from the field while going 8-27 (29.6%) from the three point line and shot an impressive 7-8 (87.5%) from the free throw stripe. Pine Manor went 27-63 (42.9%) from the field as they shot 6-19 (31.6%) from three point range while knocking down a solid 13-17 (76.5%) from the free throw line.

Rivier will jump back into Great Northeast Athletic Conference action when they return to the court on Saturday afternoon. The Raiders will welcome Lasell College to the Muldoon Gymnasium will tip-off scheduled for 1pm. Pine Manor will travel to Fitchburg State on February 3rd in their next scheduled contest.
