Women's Basketball soars past Saint Joseph (Conn.)

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team improved to 2-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference with a decisive 81-62 victory over the University of Saint Joseph this afternoon at the Muldoon Gymnasium. Rivier is now 6-6 overall on the season while the Blue Jays fall to 1-11 overall, 0-1 GNAC.

Freshman Kaylee Kacavas (Dracut, Mass.) had a solid afternoon as she paced the offensive attack with 22 points. Junior Savanna Butterfield (Londonderry, N.H.) recorded yet another double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds and classmate Caitlyn Perry (Nashua, N.H.) added 17 points. Junior Caitlin Bulger (Quincy, Mass.) also had a productive game as she added 9 points in the team's sixth win of the season.

Junior Carlee Putnam (Niantic, Conn.) had the game high of 26 points for the Blue Jays while both Rajeen Mayo (Middletown, Conn.) and Stephanie DeJesus (Meriden, Conn.) reached double-digits as they scored 13 and 10 points, respectively. Elisha Pertillar registered 11 rebounds to lead the defensive efforts in the loss.

The Raiders, who played three games over the past five days, will enjoy a week off before they host Simmons College in a GNAC contest on Saturday, 1/16. USJ will travel to Albertus Magnus for their next scheduled contest on Tuesday evening.
