Women's Basketball tripped up by Framingham State

(Framingham, Mass.) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team dropped a non-conference contest this evening on the road at Framingham State University, 91-72. The Raiders are now 3-3 overall on the season while the Rams saw five different student-athletes reach the double-digit plateau to improve to 4-2.

The Raiders were led by Caitlyn Perry (Nashua, NH) with a team-high 22 points while Kaylee Kacavas (Dracut, Mass.) and Rebecca DeBaldo (Pelham, NH) both scored 19 apiece.

The Rams were once again paced by sophomore Raegan Mulherin (Baldwinville, Mass.) who scored a game-high 23 points. Classmate Quinn O'Connell (Sterling, Mass.) tallied 17 points while junior Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) scored 15 points with a game-high 3 blocked shots. Junior Monta Connolly (Lynn, Mass.) registered a double-double scoring eleven points and eleven rebounds while also swiping a game-high four steals. Freshman Tiphani Harris (Revere, Mass.) contributed ten points off the bench for the Rams.

The Raiders jumped out to an early advantage leading 15-8 a little more than halfway through the first period but the Rams came charging back. A Mulherin basket pulled it to 19-14, a Raiders free throw made it a 6 point game then O'Connell hit three straight shots from downtown to put the Rams up 23-21. Perry hit two free throws to end the period tied at 23.

The Rams continued their hot shooting in the second quarter going on a 17-2 run to open the frame capped by a Rackliffe jumper with a little over four minutes left in the half. The Raiders would chip back and enter the break trailing 46-35.

The two teams traded baskets for much of the 3rd quarter and a Kacavas jumper with just under three minutes to go in the 3rdcut the Rams lead to nine. The hosts responded with a trey from sophomore Lauren Donahue (Attleboro, Mass.) followed by a Mulherin basket and never looked back.

The Rams were 31-of-78 (39.7%) from the field and 5-of-18 (27.8%) from long range while shooting 60 percent from the line. The Raiders shot 24-for-69 (43.8%) from the floor and were 8-of-19 from downtown (42.1%) and shot 67 percent from the stripe.

The Raiders host Pine Manor on Wednesday, December 2nd at 7:00p.m. The Rams return to the court on Saturday, December 5th when they host Suffolk University at 1:00p.m.
