Women's Basketball runs past Mount Ida

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team returned from the extended Holiday Break and after a slow start, they were able to run past Mount Ida College, 70-54 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference event at the Muldoon Gymnasium. Rivier evens out their overall record at 5-5 while earning their first conference win of the year (1-0). Mount Ida settles to a 2-11 overall record and a 0-1 start to the conference season.

Rivier freshman Kaylee Kacavas (Dracut, Mass.) led all scorers with 18 total points on 7-for-20 shooting from the floor and junior Caitlyn Perry (Nashua, N.H.) added 14 points. Junior Rebecca DeBaldo (Pelham, N.H.) earned a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds with senior Hayley Barnard (Bedford, N.H.) contributing 10 points off the bench. Junior Savanna Butterfield (Londonderry, N.H.) had a solid night with 8 points and 8 rebounds.

Mount Ida was paced by the double-double effort from junior Angelique Martinez (Taunton, Mass.) who totaled 16 points and pulled down a game high of 14 rebounds. Classmate Katlyn Jesse (Marshfield, Mass.) provided some offensive help with 11 points and sophomore Breanna Muir (Wareham, Mass.) added eight points and seven rebounds in the loss.

Next up for the Raiders will be a non-conference contest against Trinity College. Game time is scheduled for 7pm inside the friendly confines of the 'Doon. Mount Ida will have a full week off before traveling to Providence, Rhode Island for a GNAC matchup with Johnson and Wales on 1/12.
