Women's Basketball earns first win of the season; downs Plymouth State

(Concord, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team earned their first win of the season this evening as they held on to defeat Plymouth State University, 63-59 in the annual Boys and Girls Club Classic, hosted by New Hampshire Technical Institute.

Junior Caitlyn Perry (Nashua, N.H.) and freshman Kaylee Kacavas (Dracut, Mass.) totaled 17 points each to lead the Raiders in the opening contest of the Classic. Junior Rebecca DeBaldo (Pelham, N.H.) added 15 points and classmate Savanna Butterfield (Londonderry, N.H.) added her second consecutive double-double of 11 points/10 rebounds as Rivier improves to 1-2 on the young season.

Plymouth State was paced by the attack of Ace Lawrence, who had 15 points, and a double-double from Jess Conant, 12 points/11 rebounds, in the loss. Annaliese Schmidt also added 14 points for the Panthers.

This marks the third victory that the Raiders have registered over the Panthers in the short four year history of the Boys and Girls Club Classic. Plymouth State recorded their lone win last season by a 46-41 margin.

Rivier will now prepare for a Thursday night non-conference contest at Fitchburg State University. Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
