Women's Basketball stumbles against Trinity College

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team fell at the hands of Trinity College this evening, 64-51. The loss sends the Raiders to 5-5 overall on the season while the Bantams improve to 8-1.

Junior Savanna Butterfield (Londonderry, N.H.) was the star of the game for Rivier as she totaled a team high 13 points and pulled down an impressive 17 rebounds. Junior Rebecca DeBaldo (Pelham, N.H.) was the other Raider to reach double-digit points with 11 on the night.

Trinity saw Mackenzie Griffin shoot 11-for-21 on her way to a game high 30 points while recording her own double-double with 14 rebounds. Melanie Mills provided some additional help to the Bantam offense as she finished with 13 points.

The Bantams jumped out to an early 17-9 advantage after the first 10 minutes. However the Raiders responded by limiting Trinity to just six points as they closed to deficit to just one at halftime, 23-22. The Trinity offense was just too much to begin the second half of play as they totaled 24 third quarter points to pull away with the 64-51 victory.

Next for the Raiders will be a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest against the University of Saint Joseph. Game time between the Raiders and Blue Jays is set for 1pm inside the Muldoon Gymnasium. Trinity will continue to be on the road as they travel to Williams for a 2pm tip-off on Sunday afternoon.
