Field Hockey Downs SJC, Collects Seventh Straight GNAC Win on Senior Day

NASHUA, N.H. - The Rivier field hockey team defeated Saint Joseph's (Me.) for the first time in program history on Saturday afternoon at Merill Field, improving their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) winning streak to a whopping seven games. The Raiders now sit at 8-7 (8-3 GNAC), while the Monks fell to 6-10 (6-5 GNAC).

Before the start of the contest, Rivier seniors Madison Bovill, Kayla Miles, Chloe Sicard, and Sydney Spenard were celebrated for their dedication to the program.

For Rivier, Reilly Swislosky and Madison Streeter each recorded a pair of goals in the triumph.

Swislosky scored her first goal about three minutes into the first quarter, as she gathered the ball from SJC's goalkeepers' feet to push the ball behind her.

Soon thereafter, Streeter dribbled around the Monks' defenders, placing a shot in the corner of the net at 19:44, to put the Raiders up by two.

Less than a minute later, Bovill fired a pass towards the net, picked up by Swislosky who recorded her second goal of the contest.

It was a scoreless third quarter, but Streeter restarted the scoring as she shot through the Monks' defenders, increasing Rivier's lead to 4-0.

SJC was able to put away two goals before the end of the contest, but it was not enough to defeat the Raiders.

Saint Joseph outshot Riv 17-7 and earned ten penalty corners to the Raiders two.

Riv goalkeeper Kylie Coupal made seven saves on the day and was tagged with the win.

The Raiders travel to Newton, Mass. to compete with Lasell in another GNAC matchup on Tuesday, Oct. 24 with a start time of 5:00 p.m. which will wrap up their regular season schedule.
