Field Hockey Falls to Thomas

NASHUA, N.H. – Despite 18 saves from Kyle Coupal, the Rivier field hockey team fell to the Thomas Terriers in non-conference action by a final score of 3-1 on Tuesday night at Merrill Field. The Raiders fell to 1-6 on the season, while Thomas improved to 3-6.

Julia Reny would open the scoring for the Terrier just 31 seconds into the contest, burying a feed from Paige Gilbert. The Raiders would fail to tie the score through the remaining 29:29 and the score remained 1-0 in favor of the visitors at the halftime break, with Thomas outshooting Rivier 17-5.

It took only 29 seconds into the second half for the Terriers to double their lead, as Reny found Avery Herrick at the penalty spot for a tap-in goal. Just over three minutes later, Reny would tally her second of the game, this time on an unassisted try, to put Thomas up 3-0.

At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Kayla Miles would break up Brennan Pinto's shutout bid, tipping in a Reilly Swislosky shot from the top of the shooting circle. The comeback bid would fall short, however, as the score would remain 3-1 until the final buzzer.

The Raiders were outshot, 33-10, and earned just four penalty corners to the Terriers' 27.

Rivier will get back to its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) slate in a Saturday morning home matchup with Dean set to begin at 11:00 a.m. at Merrill Field.
