Field Hockey Shuts Out Dean, 8-0

NASHUA, N.H. - Rivier field hockey put away eight goals to take down the Dean Bulldogs in Great Northeast Conference (GNAC) play at home at Merrill Field on Saturday as part of Alumni Homecoming Weekend. The victory signified the largest margin of victory for the Raiders since they downed Albertus Magnus 10-0 on Oct. 23, 2018.

Just over five minutes into the game, Reilly Swislosky slid the ball through goalkeeper Mackenzie Fillion's legs to obtain the first goal of the game, with the assist credited to Madison Bovill. A short tap from Kayla Miles helped Madison Streeter find the back of the net to put the Raiders up 2-0 at 6:50. Up next, Abby Nadeau reached Miles from outside the circle who quickly passed to Swislosky to score her second goal of the contest. Hailey Morse later connected with Miles, who smoothly one-touched the ball into the cage.

On almost an identical play from the first quarter, Miles scored her second goal of the game with 10:09 left in the second with help from Morse.

To get the third quarter started, Streeter rolled in a goal with an assist from Swislosky, increasing the lead to 6-0. First-year Brianna Spinelli recorded her first collegiate goal in her first collegiate appearance as she backhanded the ball past Fillion. Bovill raced past the Bulldog defenders to collect the last goal of the game at 42:34.

Raiders' Kylie Coupal made one save and Lily Gifford contributed with two saves this morning, to earn the combined shutout.

The Raiders (2-6, 2-3 GNAC) dominated the turf this morning, out-shooting Dean (1-9, 1-5 GNAC) by a 22-5 margin. Riv also earned nine penalty corners to the Bulldogs' three. Rivier is now 5-0 against Dean in the all-time series, with three wins coming at Merrill Field

Rivier is back home on Wednesday, Oct. 4 to face Anna Maria in GNAC action with a start time of 5:00 p.m.
