NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier women's volleyball team opened its home slate with a tri-match against Wentworth and Castleton on Saturday at the Muldoon Center. The Raiders fell to the Leopards before rallying to down the Spartans to come out of the day with a 2-4 overall record.
The Raiders continue their homestand on Tuesday, Sept. 10 with another non-conference matchup against Lesley at 7:00 p.m.
Wentworth 3, Rivier 0
The Raiders fell in straight sets to the reigning Conference of New England (CNE) champions. Despite the defeat, senior setter Ryan Hicks notched 13 assists while Brynn Roche recorded four kills on 10 errorless swings to hit at a .400 clip.
Rivier 3, VTSU Castleton 2
After falling behind two sets to one, Rivier rallied to win the fourth set, 25-20, to force a fifth and final frame.
In the fifth, the Raiders got out to an 11-7 lead thanks to a Ryan Hicks service run to give the home side a cushion. Three-straight points for Castleton made it a one-point game, but the Raiders would use back-to-back kills by senior middle Lily Sills to make it 13-10. Back-to-back aces from first-year Tia Pegler sealed the deal, giving Rivier its first win since the season-opening victory over Westfield St.
Sills hit at a team-best .364 clip, recording 11 kills. Pegler and classmate Lily Seibel recorded 17 and 15 assists, respectively, in the triumph. Hicks registered a career-high 19 digs.
