Women’s Volleyball Drops Pair on Final Day of Dearing Classic

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Rivier women's volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches on the final day of the Dearing Classic, hosted by Springfield College, on Saturday at Dana Gymnasium. The Raiders fell in straight sets to No. 18 Ithaca in the morning contest before losing Keene St. in five sets in the afternoon to cap off their opening weekend with a 1-2 record.

Next up, Rivier will head to Wellesley for a non-conference matchup on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 6:00 p.m. from the Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.

No. 18 Ithaca 3, Rivier 0

The Raiders were limited to a .000 hitting percentage as they fell by set scores of 19-25, 11-25, 16-25. The Bombers recorded 41 kills in the match.

Ali Rivera notched nine digs and five kills in the setback for the Raiders.

Keene St. 3, Rivier 2

After falling behind two sets to none in the match, Rivier rallied to win the third and fourth sets by scores of 26-24 and 25-19 to tie things up and force a fifth and final.

In the fifth set, the Owls used nine kills, two aces, and one block to thwart the Raiders' comeback bid, 15-5.

Ali Rivera recorded her first double-double of the campaign with 16 digs and 10 kills. Sam Driend clocked nine kills and nine digs in the loss.
