2024 Season Preview: Rivier Women’s Volleyball
COACH COSTA PREVIEWS 2024 SEASON
NASHUA, N.H. – After being slotted to finish fifth in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Preseason Poll, the Rivier women's volleyball team is set to begin its 2024 campaign at the Joel B. Dearing '79 Volleyball Classic hosted by Springfield College on Friday, August 30. The Raiders, led by third-year Head Coach Jeff Costa '05, will face off against Westfield St. at 5:00 p.m. at Dana Gymnasium.
LAST SEASON
- The Raiders concluded their season in the GNAC Quarterfinal round, bowing out of the tournament with a 3-0 loss against eventual champion Lasell
- The team earned the fifth seed in the playoffs after finishing 16-10 (11-4 GNAC)
- Lily Sills and Brynn Roche each earned GNAC All-Conference accolades, finishing on the First Team and Third Team, respectively
- Libero Sofia Pawlusik reached the 1,000 digs milestone before graduating in December
CAPTAINS
- Seniors Ryan Hicks, Brynn Roche, and Lily Sills will lead the squad which includes 12 returning players and 10 newcomers
NEWCOMERS
- One transfer and nine first-years round out the roster
SCHEDULE
- The season begins at the Dearing Classic with three matches over a two-day span (8/30-8/31)
- The home opener comes in a non-conference tri-match against Wentworth and Castleton (9/7) as part of a four-match homestand
- GNAC play begins on 9/14 at Mitchell
- Five-straight home matches span from 9/18 to 9/28 which includes a GNAC tri-match on Alumni Reunion Weekend
- Senior Day will be celebrated on 10/12 in a non-conference tri-match against Babson and Nichols
- 10 of the final 11 matches of the year will be played away from home, with a 10/6 matchup against Mass. Maritime serving as the final home contest of the season
