Women’s Soccer Downed in Season Opener by Simmons

NASHUA, NH: The Rivier women's soccer team fell in their season and conference opener this afternoon after a big second half from Simmons University.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 9/10/22

- Score: Simmons 2, Rivier 0

- Records: Simmons (2-2-1, 1-0 GNAC), Rivier (0-1, 0-1 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  After a scoreless first half, the Sharks were able to finally get past Julia Cafferty (Tewksbury, MA) in net for the Raiders off numerous rebounded shots. Simmons was able to capitalize on the fifth opportunity at close range.   

- The second and final goal came just five minutes later off a corner kick from Izabella Warren to Riley Wasiuk. Wasiuk lifted her foot a few inches off the ground to receive the corner, and it best the Raiders Keeper low and to the right.

- Cafferty was tagged with the loss but put in a considerable effort in net. She faced 16 shots on goals and racked up 14 saves. Marita Nothacker saved all five shots that came her way to solidify the shutout.

-  Corner Kicks: Simmons 7, Rivier 4
