Women's Basketball falters on the road at Fitchburg State, 71-57

(Fitchburg, Mass.) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team fell on the road this evening in non-conference action to Fitchburg State University, 71-57. The Raiders are now 0-4 on the season while the Falcons improve to 2-0.

Senior Deanna Purcell (Hudson, N.H.) continues her climb to the top of the Rivier record book as she scored 22 points and 13 rebounds, her second double-double of the season. Sophomores Savanna Butterfield (Londonderry, N.H.) and Caitlyn Perry (Nashua, N.H.) each had double-digit nights with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Freshman Jennifer Thorpe (North Attleboro, Mass.) and sophomore Chelsey Hussey (Lebanon, Conn.) were the only other point scorers for Rivier in the loss.

The Falcons were paced by Laura Cote who shot 6-for-8 from the floor en route to 17 points. Megan Wodzinski added 15 points and Brittany Payne collected 9 rebounds in the win.

Rivier will look for their first win of the season next Tuesday night as they host cross-town foe, Daniel Webster College. Game time is set for 7:30pm inside the Muldoon Gymnasium.
