Deann Purcell named GNAC Player of the Week

(Winthrop, Mass.) The Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced this afternoon that Rivier University senior Deanna Purcell has been selected as the GNAC's Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Purcell averaged 27.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game in a 2-1 week for the Raiders, as she became Rivier's All-Time Leading Scorer in the process. She helped the Raiders earn non-conference wins over Daniel Webster (102-83) and Goucher College (65-37). The 5-10 guard shot 53.6 percent (30-for-56 FG) from the floor and was 16-for-21 from the line. Purcell was also selected to the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Invitational All-Tournament Team this past weekend in Rochester, New York.

The Hudson, New Hampshire native now stands at 1,807 total points after eclipsing John McMahon's (Class of 2007) mark of 1,753 in the win over Daniel Webster.

This is the first time this season that Purcell has been named GNAC Player of the Week.
