Women's Basketball tops 100 points in win over Fisher

(Lynn, Mass.) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team topped 100 points for the second time this season as they defeated the Fisher College Falcons, 101-51 this evening in a non-confernece contest at the Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium. Rivier improved to 3-6 on the season while Fisher slides to 1-4.  

The game kicked off with the Raiders winning the tip-off and taking a 2-0 lead right out of the gate. Deanna Purcell (Hudson, N.H.) then scored two points on a layup to put the Raiders up 4-1.

Christine Briggs (Rumford, ME) hit a shot from outside the arc for three points to knot the game at four. The Raiders went on a 10-point run to put the visitors up 14-4. Fisher couldn't catch a break and went into the half-time break down 57-29.

Madison Carroll (Methuen, MA) was the lead scorer in the first half for the Falcons. Carroll had nine points with seven rebounds. Shakieya Roland-Drake (Boston, MA) and Briggs both had five points for the Falcons. Briggs had six boards for Fisher College.

Caitlyn Perry (Nashua, N.H.) was the leading scorer for the Raiders with 15 points, hitting four field goals and three three-pointers. Purcell was right behind Perry, scoring 13 points and grabbing seven rebounds in the first half. Savanna Butterfield (Londonderry, N.H.) scored 12 points and picked up 10 rebounds heading into halftime.

The Raiders opened the second half with an 11-point run before possession was turned over to the Falcons on a foul. Alexis Akridge (Union, NJ) hit one of her two free throws, but the team regained possession after the Raiders knocked it out of bounds.

With 11:27 left on the clock, the Falcons went on a seven-point run, their longest run of the game. Rivier outscored Fisher 44-22 in the second half. The game concluded with the final score of 101-51 in Rivier's favor.

Five Raiders finished the game scoring double digits. Perry finished with 23 points and three rebounds on the night while Purcell finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Caitlin Bulger (Quincy, Mass.) (19 points), Butterfield (16 points, 13 rebounds), and Chelsey Hussey (Lebanon, Conn.) (14 points, 10 rebounds) were other key scorers in the Raider victory.

Madison Carroll was the lone Falcon to grab a double-double scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.Murphy Carroll also was another key scorer in the matchup with 10 points and recording four boards. Roland-Drake and Akridge helped the Falcons, both scoring nine points and grabbing five and four rebounds, respectively.

The Raiders will host Westfield State on Saturday afternoon as they close out the first half of the 2014-15 schedule. Game time is set for 1pm inside the Muldoon Gymnasium. The Falcons return to action on Saturday, December 6, when they host the Mustangs of Mount Ida at 2:00 pm in the Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium in Lynn, MA.
