Women's Basketball falters against Plymouth State

(Concord, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Basketball team dropped their third straight game to begin the season as the Plymouth State University Panthers earned a 46-41 victory this evening in the opening game of the 2014 Boys and Girls Club Classic, hosted by NHTI in Concord.

The Raiders were led by senior Deanna Purcell (Hudson, N.H.) who had a game high 15 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Savanna Butterfield (Londonderry, N.H.) finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots.

Plymouth State received a huge effort from sophomore DeAsia Lawrence (Middletown, Conn.) who nailed a three pointer with 1:04 remaining to give the Panthers a five point lead. Lawrence finished the game with 14 points, a team high and 8 rebounds. Sophomore Savannah Miller (Smithtown, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Tiffany Lewis (Hillsboro, N.H.) also contributed 8 rebounds in Plymouth State's second win of the young season.

Rivier (0-3) will return to action on Thursday evening as they travel to Fitchburg (Mass.) State for a 7pm non-conference tip off. Plymouth State (2-1) will also be on the road in their next matchup on Saturday afternoon at Lyndon (Vt.) State College. Game time is set for 1pm.
