Women's Volleyball takes four set win at Gordon; Silverman totals 9 blocks

(Wenham, Mass.) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team was victorious on the road this evening as they defeated Gordon College, 3-1 in non-conference action. The Raiders are now a remarkable 23-3 on the season while the Fighting Scots fall to 11-12.

Senior Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) was the star for the Raiders as she hammered down 18 kills with a .378 hitting percentage and totaled an unprecedented nine total blocks. Classmate Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.) contributed with 13 kills in the four set win as fellow senior Chelsey Hussey (Lebanon, Conn.) chipped in with seven. Sophomore Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.) directed the high-powered offense with 39 assists and helped on the defensive front with 16 digs. Senior Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) was the defensive leader with 24 digs – to go along with her seven kills – on the night while junior Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) added 15 digs of her own.

Gordon was paced by Carleigh Petersen's 12 kills and Mackenzie Hinds added 10 in the four set loss. Renee Cooprider dished out 32 assits and Maggie Risma was the dig leader with 28.

The Raiders will host both Mount Ida College and Simmons College on Saturday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match at the Muldoon Gymnasium. Rivier will take on the Mustangs in the opening match beginning at 11am.
