Women's Volleyball takes two from Anna Maria & Lasell

(Newton, Mass.) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team took a pair of important Great Northeast Athletic Conference victories this afternoon from Anna Maria College and Lasell College in a conference tri-match hosted by the Lasers. The wins up the Raiders' overall record to 18-2 and 2-1 in the GNAC. The AMCATS move to 13-8 (3-3 GNAC) while Lasell slides to 5-14 (1-4 GNAC).

Game One: Rivier University 3, Anna Maria College 0 (Final)

The Raiders won their first conference game of the season with a dominate performance against the AMCATS as they took the three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-18 and 25-16.

Senior Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) was a force to be reckoned with as the veteran lashed out for 15 kills, a .609 hitting percentage and three total blocks. Classmate Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.) was right behind with 13 kills (.591 hitting percentage) as the duo combined for over 50% of the team's total kills in the match. Sophomore Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.) helped guide the team to a .382 hitting percentage with 40 assists and junior Madison Soucy (Tolland, Conn.) controlled the back line with 19 digs. Senior Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) had a solid first game with six kills and 13 digs.

Anna Maria was paced by Amari King, who had a team high nine kills and nine digs. Carolina Garcia was the dig leader with 12 and Tierney Ciancy dished out 17 assists. Rebecca Foti added seven kills in the loss.

Game Two: Rivier University 3, Lasell College 0 (Final)

In the final contest of the conference tri-match, the Raiders rolled to an early 2-0 lead with scores of 25-13 and 25-18 before squeaking out the third set 26-24 to complete the sweep.

Rivier employed an entire team effort in the win as 17 student-athletes appeared in the contest. McCormack was the offensive star as she hammered down 15 kills (.483) with 11 digs and Macken added eight kills (.615) to go along with her 28 assists as each played in all three sets. Mott (two sets played) recorded seven kills and three total blocks while freshman Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass.) match McCormack with 11 digs.

Lasell's Olivia Addington was the leader on the offensive front as she had nine kills with eight digs. Taylor Tiezzi led the defensive efforts with 10 digs while also dishing out 17 assists. Michele Canestro contributed with eight kills in the loss for the Lasers.

Rivier, winners of seven of their previous 8, will look to stay red-hot with a trip to Boston, Mass. for a date with Suffolk University on Monday evening.
