Women's Volleyball upended at Tufts, 3-0

(Medford, Mass.) A pair of one-loss teams squared off this evening at Cousens Gym on Tuesday night as the Rivier University Women's Volleyball team visited Tufts University in a non-conference contest. Home court stayed true as the Jumbos earned the straight set victory (3-0) over the Raiders by scores of 25-12, 25-20 and 25-19.

The loss is just the second of the season for Rivier as they are 16-2 while the Jumbos improve to 12-1.

Senior Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.) was the only Raider to reach the double-digit plateau in kills as she finished with 11 and a .400 hitting percentage. Classmate Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) recorded nine kills (.318 hitting percentage) and six digs while fellow senior Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) accumulated six kills on the evening. Sophomore Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.) dished out 26 assists with junior Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) leading the defensive effort with eight digs. Freshman Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass.) also contributed on the defensive front with six digs.

Brigid Bell was the catalyst for the Jumbos as she knocked down 13 kills and registered a .722 hitting percentage. Mackenzie Bright had a .536 hitting percentage with nine kills and Katie Kim reach eight for the win. Rachel Furash and Angela Yu each dished out 18 and 17 assists, respectively for Tufts.

The Raiders will look to obtain their first conference win of the season as they return to the court this weekend with a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match against Lasell College and Anna Maria College, hosted by the Lasers.
