Women's Volleyball blanks Norwich; Silverman records 1,000th career kill

(Nashua, N.H.) Senior Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded her 1,000th career kill as the Rivier University Women's Volleyball team earned a straight set sweep of visiting Norwich University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest this evening at the Muldoon Gymnasium. The 3-0 win improves the Rivier overall record to 22-3 and a 6-1 GNAC mark while the Cadets stumble to 5-12 (1-6 GNAC).

Silverman hammered down her 1,000th career kill early in the first set as she becomes the sixth Women's Volleyball student-athlete to reach the career milestone. She joins classmate Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) and legends Nicole Peacock '14, Kenna Finlayson '13, Nicole Hersey '09 and Kori Chace '08 as the elite members of the club.

The Raiders took the game by winning the three sets by scores of 25-8, 25-14 and 25-18.

Silverman and McCormack appeared in just one set each this evening as they both collected four kills (.800 hitting percentage) and two total blocks. Junior Ashley Winet (San Gabriel, Calif.) who led the offensive attack with six kills while chipping in with three digs. Freshman Taylor Dunster (Sutton, Mass.) also had a solid evening as she smacked down five kills and seven digs. Senior Alley Stefanovski (Rochester, N.Y.) dished out 22 assists and freshman Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass.) paced the back like with 11 digs.

Norwich saw both freshmen Monika Schneider (Brookline, N.H.) and Marissa Perrotti (Moultonborough, N.H.) lead the team with four kills each and sophomore Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) pass out 14 assists. Freshman Brianna Dawson (Katonah, N.Y.) played well along the back line with seven digs and classmate Ashley Nau (Sunrise, Fla.) contributed with five digs and a block solo.

Rivier will have a quick turnaround as they are back at it tomorrow evening with a non-conference contest at Gordon College. Norwich, meanwhile, has time to regroup as they get set to host both Lasell College and Suffolk University in a GNAC tri-match when they return to the court on Saturday afternoon in Northfield, Vermont.
