Men's Lacrosse sails to 19-3 win over Thomas College

(Nashua, New Hampshire) The Rivier University Men's Lacrosse team continued their strong start to the 2015 season with a 19 – 3 win over the visiting Thomas College Terriers in a late afternoon showdown with light snowfall throughout the game. The Raiders are now 2 – 0 out of the gate this season. Thomas falls to 0 – 1 with the loss as their opening game in the 2015 campaign.

Rivier took the early lead as Cody Lynch (JR, Salem, NH), Tyler Tambouris (FR, Hooksett, NH), and Kevin Dembkoski (JR, Salem, NH) staked the Raiders to a 3-0 lead over the course of the 1st quarter. Colby Blondin (FR, Colchester, VT) struck for the visitors to open the 2nd quarter scoring and cut into the Raiders' lead at 3-1. Rivier responded by adding five more tallies in the 2nd quarter, with Lynch pacing the attack with a pair of goals, to take commanding 8-1 lead into the halftime break.

There was nowhere to hide for the Terriers in the 3rd quarter as Rivier pounded the visitors with eight strikes, with a pair of them chipped in by Tambouris. Thomas was only able to counter with two goals and found themselves down 16-3 heading into the 4th quarter. Rivier carried the play in the final quarter and added three more tallies to salt away the win with the final score 19-3.

The Raiders were led by Cody Lynch 4 goals, 2 assists, 10 shots with 6 on goal, and 12 ground balls; Kyle Graham (JR, Londonderry, NH) 2 goals, 3 assists, 9 shots with 4 on goal, and 3 ground balls; and Tyler Tambouris 3 goals, 2 assists, and 1 ground ball. Andrew Lucy (SR, Windham, NH) led the Raider defense and first year defender Josh Martin (FR, Hanover, NH), 3 ground balls, was a physical presence and made strong contributions to the Raider D. Clark Plummer (JR, Londonderry, NH) continued to shine in goal, allowing only three goals in the contest, and back stopping the Raiders to their two opening wins.

The visiting Terriers were led by Colby Blondin 1 goal and 6 ground balls; and Bryan Ferris (JR, Whitman, MA) 1 goal, 5 shots, 2 on goal. Connor Lamberton (FR, Shohola, PA) started in goal and had 15 saves on 26 shots before being relieved by Liam Salus (FR, Florham Park, NJ) who made 4 saves on 12 shots.

With the win the Raiders improve to 2 – 0 on the season. The loss drops Thomas to 0 – 1 on the season. Next up for the Raiders is a visit from Nichols College on Wednesday, March 4th, with the game starting at 7:00 pm on Raider Field. The Terriers have some time before their next contest, they host Wheelock College in Waterville, ME at 4:00 pm on March 10th.
