Raiders blank Daniel Webster in Women's Volleyball

Nashua – Kenna Finlayson (Derry, N.H.) knocked down a match-high 14 kills while Nicole Peacock (Warwick, R.I.) added nine powering Rivier past host Daniel Webster, 3-0 in the annual matchup of intracity women's volleyball foes Monday night at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.

Nicole Boucher (Windham, N.H.) added eight kills and Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, Cal.) handed off 32 assists as the Raiders (19-9) won their fifth straight by set scores of 25-9, 25-21 and 25-20.

Chelsey Crawford (Westfield, Mass.) and Jennifer Finneran (Barnstead, N.H.) led the Eagles (13-9) with seven kills each. Finneran added two solo blocks while Crawford added two aces. Ally Hayden (Bedford, N.H.) added 16 assists.

The loss snapped a season long four-game win streak for DWC.

Rivier sizzled on the attack, combining to hit .406 on the night against .119 for the hosts. Rivier finished with advantages in total kills (38-21), assists (33-17), digs (31-19) and aces (10-7).

Rivier never trailed in the opener, hitting .471 in the set led by four kills from Boucher.

DWC awoke in the second to hit .348 although Rivier smoked at a .500 clip and the teams forged 10 ties and seven lead changes. The teams were tied as late as 17-all before Peacock rattled off four straight points from the line which included an O'Reilly kill for a 20-17 lead. Finlayson would late close it out with a kill for the 25-21 final.

DWC jumped out to a handful of early three-point leads in the third and led 20-16 after a Brier Temple (Concord, N.H.) kill.

But three of Peacock's five kills in the set and two more from Boucher sparked a 9-0 run to close the match for the visitors.

The Eagles are off until Wednesday when they visit Regis for a NECC meeting at 7:00 p.m.

Rivier hosts UMass Dartmouth on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
