Finlayson powers Raiders to Tri-Match sweep

(Nashua, NH) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team upped their conference record to 10-1 as they took a pair of 3-1 victories over Mount Ida College and Simmons College in a GNAC Tri-Match hosted by the Raiders.

In the day's first game, Rivier was able to beat Mount Ida 3-1 behind a strong performance from senior Kenna Finlayson (Derry, NH). Finlayson hammered out 16 kills as the Raiders took the sets by scores of 25-22, 25-14, 14-25 and 25-14. Junior Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) was the only other Rivier student-athlete to record double-digit kills as she had 11 and 10 total blocks. Freshman Nikki Deluga (Cotuit, MA) was superb on the defensive front as she collect 20 digs and classmate Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, CA) had 35 assists.

Mount Ida was led by Jennifer Ferreira who laced 13 kills and Kelcey Koolman with 16 digs. Both Julie Smith and Nicole Peixoto had 17 and 12 assists respectively.

The Raiders carried the game one momentum into the final match against Simmons College. Again, Finlayson was the team leader with 19 kills. O'Reilly contributed with 32 assists while Deluga had 15 digs. Rivier took the game in four sets by scores of 25-12, 25-16, 24-26 and 25-15.

The Sharks had a nice outing from Raeann Nesta and Kyla McCabe-Corrow. Nesta paced the offensive with 12 kills while McCabe-Corrow had 17 assists. Chanel Thomas had 14 digs in the loss.

Rivier, now 18-9 overall and 10-1 in GNAC, will return to the floor on Monday night as they travel across town to battle Daniel Webster College. DWC edged the Raiders in the 2011 matchup, winning in a tough fifth set. Rivier's final home contest will be on Thursday night when the team plans to honor seniors Finlayson and Meghan Farrell (Marlborough, MA).
