
Poitras, Purcell named to the GNAC All-Conferene First Team
(Boston, MA) The Great Northeast Athletic Conference reveled their 2012-13 Men's and Women's All Conference teams this morning and the Raiders had a few representatives, including two first team members.
On the Men's side, junior forward Tom Poitras was chosen as a First Team member for the first time in his three year career here in Raider blue. The Bow, New Hampshire native was the offensive force that Rivier needed to return to the GNAC Tournament this season. Poitras scored 379 points during the team's 10-13 campaign and averaged 16.5 points per game. He also recorded a 53.5 shooting percentage from the floor and collected 111 rebounds. Poitras also surpassed the 1,000 career point mark back on February 5th at Johnson & Wales University.
Junior guard Shawn Gareau (Hardwick, MA) was also named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
Sophomore Deanna Purcell followed an impressive rookie season – 2012 GNAC Rookie of the Year and 1st team selection – with another standout performance in the 2012-13 season. She was selected to the GNAC All-Conference First team as she led the Raiders to their second straight GNAC Tournament appearance. The Hudson, New Hampshire native became the fastest student-athlete in GNAC history to reach the 1,000 point plateau (78 games) when she did so on February 5th at Lasell College. Purcell finished the season averaging 22.6 points per game – a total of 565 on the season – and a shooting percentage of 50.6%. She also collected 137 rebounds and started all 25 of the team's games.
Junior A.J. Guidi was also named to the GNAC All-Conference Third team as she contributed 338 points (13.5 ppg) in her first season at Rivier. Guidi, a native of Derry, New Hampshire, transferred into to Rivier and helped create a sharp shooting duo with Purcell. She was able to knock down 52 of her 3-point attempts and was the team leader in rebounds with 162.
Junior Ryan Baker (Whitinsville, MA) was named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship team.
